7 tricks to eliminate bad smells from the shaker

You are at home and getting ready to go to training. Open the gym bag to put everything you need and there it is: the shaker from the day before. Remove the lid and… Surprise! It stinks so much that it even resurrects the dead. It’s a familiar scene, isn’t it? Cleaning the shaker can be difficult, but if you have the strength to lift a 100kg bench press you will definitely have the strength to wash your favorite bottle. And if you don’t know how to do it properly, because no matter how you try you can’t get rid of that terrible smell, read on. We have collected some home tricks that can help you. If you still can’t get the bad smell out of your shaker, maybe it’s time to get a new one.

Tip #1: Boiling water and soap. An elementary practice. Fill your shaker with very hot (almost boiling) water and dish soap. Shake the shaker and let it rest for at least 5 minutes before emptying it. Then scrub with a sponge and water to rinse it off before leaving it to dry.

Tip n.2: pay attention to the lid. When we clean our shakers, the lid can be particularly hostile. When a bottle is left dirty for a long time, the protein could get between the grooves that surround the lid and the cap. Immerse them in hot water for at least ten minutes: when the residues have softened it will be easier to remove them.

Tip n.3: water and vinegar. A classic of domestic cleaning. Fill the shaker with hot water and a little white vinegar, shake and let it sit. Then rinse and wash the bottle again with soap to make the smell disappear permanently.

Tip n.4: chemical yeast. This is another home trick, the trump card of the experts. Baking powder is amazing when it comes to neutralizing odors, especially those that have soaked into plastic. Add it along with the water to your shaker, shake, let it sit and rinse. Voila! The smell disappears like magic.

Tip #5: A rinse with herbal tea. Your favorite tea, with a refreshing and pleasant smell, preferably fruity. After washing your shaker with soap and water, fill it with hot (not boiling) water and let a tea bag sit in it overnight. The next morning, your shaker will be ready to use and add a pleasant tea scent to your smoothies.

Tip n.6: mouthwash. Mouthwash is used to kill bacteria and eliminate odors. Even in your shaker. Fill a third of the bottle with mouthwash and shake it vigorously. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

Tip n.7: a touch of vanilla. Pour a few drops of vanilla extract onto a sheet of paper. Place the sheet inside the shaker, close it and let it rest for 24 hours. It will help you eliminate unpleasant odors.
